Default Unusual problem with a cooling fan

I have a 'V' reg 75 (2.0 v6 Club SE) - I love it - BUT the plastic cooling fan has become detached from the fan motor and is loose in its casing.

Do I buy a new whole assembly (+/- £400) and then it still has to be fitted?
I guess I still have to diassemble the whole of the front of the car just to get to the fan, man am I dreading that.

Does any one have a picture or a 'Blow out diagram' of the motor and fan separately?

Regards

Nev

Hi,
see how the fan is hold by a bayonet on the motor .
You can buy a new fan or improve the fixing with the help of some screws if not too worn.

The plastic fan embrittles due to heating around the mounting boss. This typically causes the bayonet clips to break away. If you're unable to fix your old one, all fan blade mouldings are the same and are available from Xpart/Rimmer. Part Number PGG100932.

Rimmer: http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-PGG100932

Slightly cheaper here: http://www.southlakesminis.co.uk/fan...2-p-39296.html

Hi There!

The fan fits onto the motor hub via 2 or 3 "quick release" catches!!

Sadly over the years the plastic can get a bit tired and brittle - they can be refitted and if they wernt "got home" properly last time they were disturbed some times thats all you need to do!!

More usually I belive the catches are worn or damaged and although people have come up with ways of reinforcing them with self tappers and the like sometimes they are just to far gone and your reduced to replacement parts!!

You have 3 courses of action I think!!

1/ Accept that at that age the fan is probably on its last legs anyway and fit a Kenlow 2 speed replacement from Jules here on the forum for less than half the price of the OEM unit which does the job a lot more reliably and comes with 12 months warranty!! - personally my favorite as you only need to do the job once!!

2/ Strip it down and investigate what the damage is and try to repair it and/or fit 2nd hand parts that may or may not last - well who knows??

3/ Buy a new OME one at vast cost as you already know and this to will have a warranty !! but will come with the built in 60k mile failure point - unless you get the plug in 2 speed version and fit a Jules gold risistor mod unit in which case everything should be fine for years!!

Whatever you do will involve a front end strip down!! 2nd choice may involve you in doing it several times!!

To be fair the Jules Kenlow job is in the end far better in terms of cost AND reliability than the last 2 choices!!

Depends really if you fancy taking a risk to save a bit of money!!

Dont be to put off by the front end strip down thing!! - I will admit the first time you see it done it can look horendous!! BUT!! it really is simple to do and providing you follow the "how to's" that people will no doubt find and post for you it will be quite easy!!

In fact I think if you find Jules on here his shop link leads to the info/how to that you will need!!

HTH??
