Exclamation Tourer back seat stuck down

The centre seat belt in the backseat of my Tourer is jamming the seatback down. I need to get the seat back up again so I can get both kids in the back!
I tried a search but couldn't find anything helpful.

This is getting a bit urgent so I hope someone can help! Thanks in advance.

Hi Craig, how did you get to the bottom bolt? Did you have to remove the seat cushion or were you able to jam the seat back up so much that you could get at it from above?

hmmmm well it was very awkward do you have any upward movment on the back bench i had to pop the bottem seat up then really squeeze into the car to get a t50 socket onto the bolt took me nearly half a hour to get it out.

what i am doing now when i drop the rear seat is pulling extra belt out and finding a way to stop it retracting back into the seat

The unit is designed for the belt only to extract when the seat is upright. To prevent this in future, you need to remove the seat back trim cover and pull the seatbelt stop button through it, or add another seatbelt button, so when the seat is in the upright position the belt is a little slack. But it prevents the risk of retracting to the point of preventing the seat back from returning to the upright position.

If this does not make sense I can take a pic of mine showing how it should be modded

Note to any 'that will doo'ers, not aimed at anyone
AN APPROPRIATE HOLE PUCH IS REQUIRED, TRYING TO MAKE A LITTLE HOLE WITH A STANLEY KNIFE, WELL IT IS A SEAT BELT NOT A LUGGAGE STRAP

I did have pictures, but the 'Tourer rear seat strip down and re assembly' how to I was working on got shelved, then I had a clearout. if you need a pic or two I will take a couple

You can get the seatbelt stop buttons on eBay for next to nothing

Pull out the belt, and check the button is ok, when the belt retracts, you should actually be able to see the button stop the seatbelt from retracting as flat against the seats as the side ones as it contacts the trim. If the button dissapears, the thin slot on the trim that the seatbelt passes through may have elongated or split. If the button contacts the trim and does not go inside but the belt is tight against the backrest, add another button about 2" further up the belt.

Removing the trim enough to check the slot is easy, if it looks ok buy a few buttons, some are a bit bigger than others, if the slot is split a bigger button will not help.

Ok, allf ixed now. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, ie removing the lower fixing of the belt. It was easy enough once I got the rear seat out of the way. Belt works fine now once it's loose.

Until the next time, unless you prevent it
