In answer to John, I think I'd buy the Rover, the main reason being that I prefer the looks - I'm still not 100% sure about the look of the headlights on the Jag.
Now if I could put the engine from the Jag into the Rover......

Answering Ken, there is a small difference in attittude from other road users, but nowhere near as pronounced as in your case.
I think the main difference is that they never seem to expect the Rover to pull away as quickly as it does, whereas they seem to expect the Jag to - for example 'boy racer' types will quite often pull up alongside at traffic lights when I'm in the Rover, thinking they can quite easily get past, but it doesn't seem to happen half as much when I'm in the Jag & they seem quite happy to sit behind you.
Weird isn't it what a difference a badge makes?

As I've got a ZR and a ZT (similliarly-aged), I've noticed the difference in respect you get in the ZT is quite outstanding - people seem to be far me courteous and respectful.

Exactly the same as me when driving the 75 as opposed to the 114.

I'm no maniac driver and I keep to speed limits, however on the way home tonight I had a young lad in a Saxo right up my exhaust all the way through the 30 mph limit. I dropped her into 'sport' mode and as we came into the national speed limit zone I floored the accelerator...... WOW my head went back and when I looked in the mirror Saxo lad was a dot in the distance.

Different cars, different attitudes? Yep...

Example:
When driving swmbo's Nissan Almera, people treat me as a regular road user. I'd say people let me out and give me right-of-way equally as much as they don't - just as you would expect.

When driving my ZT I think people are more "affraid" of me. I nearly always get right-of-way and those boy-racers who think they can pull away from me or drive on my bumper soon get a lesson in British engineering (ie, how 'quickly' it works... if you no what I mean )

Disclaimer: I don't speed. I don't condone speeding. I don't drive dangerously (seriously - I don't). I just watch others do it and think "idiots".

The MG badge comes with a great sporting pedigree, one which the ZT lives up to

People do seem to act differently when I drive my 600 to my 75 but Boy do people get a surprise at the performance of my Tourer, helped a lot by the Rover Ron box of tricks & Remap up to about 155BHP Im now told, for a diesel I think the BMW power Plant is superb and the car looks great and kept clean, and yes it is "SILVER"
