2.0L Diesel - 2005 Interesting Starting Problem

Hi folks,

Got a conundrum for you. Last night and this morning my 75 took three attempts to start. The first two attempts the glow plugs came on and when I tried to turn the key to start there was only a click.

Second time, click again, third time it starts as normal.

A few other facts which may be of interest.
It has had the re map
It was serviced recently
It has 82300 miles on the clock

I've read that these cars won't even try to turn the engine without a good charge, could that be it?

Additionally, it poured down yesterday but I think I have a clear plenum, only had enough time to glance in the driver side this morning, Will check the ECU tonight.

Starter motor solenoid contacts, or a poor connection to the battery/discharged battery I'd say Garry

It won't harm to have a look inside the plenum if you're worried though

For extra piece of mind, fit a Jules plenum shield

Got that Jules plenum shield in Brian, thanks to you actually!

I'll have a look at the battery and plenum tonight, any tips on the starter motor contacts? i.e how to identify them and fault find? It's probably as simple as looking for the wires on the motor! ha

If you heard a single click then my money is on the starter solenoid contacts.

You have to remove the starter motor to inspect them, and kits are available on the bay with instructions on how to replace.
