Cheers.
I've done a bit more research, tell me if I'm talking s**t here or not...
When I grab the CV axle (think that's right) I can slide it toward the engine and back to the hub again quite easily making the knock noise...is that it?

It is possible that this part is worn, but it is also designed to expand as the road wheel goes up and down... is it the passenger or driver side that moves?
and does it move from the CV at the wheel or the other end...

much more likely the drop links or rear wishbone bush...

wish I would have known on Friday as I was in Lichfield...

Dammit...lol.

Actually its the same both sides so I'm probably just clutching at straws. Just spent a fortune on it so trying to keep costs down now. May just have to bit the bullet.

park the car on flat ground with the handbrake off.
try to roll the front wheels forwards and backwards...
if you get a clunk then its the rear wishbone bushes.
if not change the drop links, about £30 a pair so even if not them it wont break the bank...
