Thanks all for the interest in this thread.
Had a chat with Marina Brian this week about this as we wondered if the remaps might cause a problem, but if the car is well serviced, probably not.
As we are an MOT test station and at the forefront of the new rules, we thought we would share any info we have with the club.

Answering and confirming some of the questions, we have to take the limits from the car plate, not sure about if no info, but I can find out.

Regarding being fined for taking a car from a test station with dangerous faults, I will look into the MOT legalities of that. The new MOT ticket does have three categories, pass with no defects, pass with defects, and advisories. I still have to get my head around this. Will let you know.

Having car serviced just before MOT, and cleaning MAF etc is a good idea, as well as putting in diesel cleaner and running car up before MOT.

Brian-I hope you weren't referring to our MG and Rovers as bangers!! LOL Interesting about your 'test' MOT where you swapped the ECM. Was that prompted by our conversation.

BrianW. has a point about taking care you choose an MOT station who will go the extra mile to help you pass and not just try to scrap your car. Definitely avoid the fast fit centres.

As an MG Rover Specialist we will do all we can to help preserve these cars.

Will let you all know how our monitoring of the situation goes.

Now is the time to strike up a good relationship with your local trusted MOT station/garage, I have used the same place now for 10 years, he always lets you stand by the car as he does the test, also he will shows you any little items he thinks may need looking at in near future.

He once even adjusted the front light as it was slightly out, was well chuffed with that, he /they are very fair but still on point with everything just as you want.

Keep on top of those services and keep those EGR and manifold clean

On my pre face lift tourer, the emissions in May 2017 was 1.07 with a max limit of 1.50 this was before I bought it and gave it a full service with all filters and then cleaned a really clogged egr and manifold last summer.

I seem to have misplaced this years emissions test results it's not with MOT cert (mid April so pre-change)so I'll keep looking as I'm now intrigued.

Are any of the limits related to age/year of registration ? My 75 CDTi is on a 2008 08 plate, yet was built in 2005 - will more stringent limits be applied compared to a 2005 plate car ?

Yes Lynn, the testing of a third party remapped ECM against a 160 upgraded one was the very reason for the emission test, and was as a result of our conversation last week

I'm happy to report there were no problems with the 160 upgraded ECM in terms of the new test

I think you will find that the reversing lights part of the MoT only applies to cars constructed after a certain date, I THINK that the date is some time in 2018. Getting back to the original point, has anyone negative to say about having a 115 to 160 re map carried out please?

Sorry I meant to type 2008 NOT 2018, thanks for correcting this, I get used to writing the current date all day. Thanks again. A lot of the new regulations come in at set dates, this SHOULD then apply to the date of manufacture NOT date of first registration. I am sure there will be many changes to the new regs once they discover some are 'Unworkable'.

Default Diesel Vehicle Emission Limits

Afternoon,
I think this is useful information. Not sure I thoroughly understand it all but I'm working on it.
