Do a test.
Deep down that's what I'm thinking but no other signs

Mine did that once, and only once, when I first bought the car and knew no better.
  • Expansion tank was over-filled "up to the neck".
  • Fan did not work at the low speed, because of a failed resistor.
  • Wrong cap fitted (not 1.4)
Loads of fluid spurting out when it hit 105 deg., since there is not really an overflow mechanism on the 260; it just blows!

Replaced cap
Replaced resistor
Correctly filled to the MAX mark

... 3 years later AOK.

You can take a look at the Two Sixties forum, although you need to join to read anything that may be of help in this case.

Your belt should be available at any good motor factor:
Gates part number 6PK2373 (the ones I use)
DAYCO 6PK2375 part number 5060935
Continental Contitech 6PK2370

Belt is the same as for the VW Passat 2.3 V5 with air con (2000 onwards)

The heaters are notorious for having a mind of their own. One you get yourself sorted over on the 260s club an upgraded heater valve is available through the club shop.
