Default Fuses blowing - V6 2 litre estate

Fuses 1 and 3 keep blowing in the engine compartment - which kill the engine. Drive about with spare ones of a higher than recommended value, but I fear for safety if the engine cuts at a junction, motorway or overtaking. So far I have got away with it and pulled over to change them. Happened about 6 or seven times in last two months. Sometimes when accelerate, but the last time I used it blew 2 fuses in 2 mile run bimbling along at 25mph through built up area.

Any common cause?

I checked the alternator charge - normal. I have been blowing lots of bulbs too - and I read that thread on bulbs blowing.

The exhaust has been blowing too. I removed the rear baffle on Friday, but I doubt if that has anything to do with the problem.
