How do I check that the fan's working? Without wanting to sound too thick, do I need to take of the front bumper to see it as it doesn't appear to be visible if I just pop the bonnet?

Your ongoing help is much appreciated.

Chris.
Ha ha, I would make you one with pleasure, but I am a bit far away. The guy who makes them in the UK is Garry. Look it up.
The fan can easily be checked by switching the A/C on. That should bring the fan on, on low speed.

And by far the best advice anyone can give you on these cars. Check the water every day, before you go. The gauge will not warn you, so a physical check is you only option.
Good luck.

Chris.
No, No , NO !
The top of the fins is way too high . Just fill till you just cover the MAX mark

Having said mine last steamed when HG went, Saturday saw steam appear again, the top hose has a small split close to the T-Piece, as a temporary measure hose shortened and reconnected. The hoses all appear original so on a 9 year old car must all be ready for replacement. Rimmer price is way out of order (price of 2 mid range tyres) so checking now for OAT resistant silicon hoses.

Mine has a split under the clip where the lower hose comes up to join the T-piece. As a temporary measure I've covered it with some silicon sealant until I get the alloy t-piece when I'll change the hoses.

If you get any good news re: OAT resistant silicon hoses, do let me know.

When the coolant gets up to temp the system comes under pressure so silicone to block a leak is useless I'm afraid...
