Had the use of a 45 TD for a few weeks when V reg's had just come out, I always loved my 416 so looked forward to trying the car, Seemed a very strong engine to me with lots of grunt, In fact If i'm honest was a bit disapointed with the 75, was expected same sort of spirit but it took a tu3 before I got that.

Hi there
We have a 25 1.8 Auto for the wife (75 2.5 V6 Club Auto for me !)and it is a lovely little car, but if your son is learning you really need to look for the smallest engine to get the lowest insurance premium. I believe there is a 1.1 and also a 1.4 8 rather than 16 valve engine available. Until your son has passed his test, I would forget about the MG versions they will all have high insurance ratings as they have the larger engines. Even the smallest engines are pretty lively, (far better than Volkswagen !), but you need to be aware of the dreaded head gasket failure problem. This is most prevalent on the 1.6 and 1.8 engines before May 2001, (it occurred on our car and seems to have been cured). It's probably very rare on the 8 valve small engines I mentioned. Prices are really cheap for what you get due to the MG Rover debacle, and the car is very stylish, and handles and brakes well. There are not really any other serious faults as far as I know. |

Thanks for confirming that for me...always my 05 TD ZR was so rougher and (in some respects) noiser (compared to the previous one I had) - one of the first things I noticed (don't ask why) was the missing insulation in the wheel arches (wasn't sure if I was imagining it tho!). Often wondered about puttting it back in (the Mrs wants to keep it), but don't know the extent of the removal? |

My misses had a british racing green 25 up to last october, her's was 1.4 on 'W' plate.
she loved it, in 3 years of ownership no issues with it at all. Only thing we found strange was it had a electric sun roof but manual / wind up windows the insurance price does seem steep but then neither me or the misses are 17 |

Agree with Aurora
Forgot to thoroughly recommend a Sreetwise Somehow the build quality is better than a 25 or ZR and the higher suspension gives it a great ride too. The diesels I had in (only for a few days) went like stink. Sold now but just to wet your appetite Andy : Funky Streetwise Interior 05 plate : More sedate interior:
