Angry clutch gone

over the last faw days have been finding it harder to get my gears. then the clutch pedal went to the floor and could not get any gears.

i.ve only have the car 5 mouths. been told my the garage that if its the hydraulic systemat fault it will be done under the guarantee other parts are not coved.

the has only done 24,000 miles has 19,500 miles when i got it.

do you think it will be hydraulic or could it be clutch/pressure plate after only 24,000 miles.

Kevin

Unless the clutch cover has failed (Unlikely) it sounds like a case of the slave cylinder failing, which would result in the peddle going straight to the floor. Have a search as there seems to have been a number that have suffered a similar fate recently

As said above, most likely a slave or m/c fault, but, it seems a low mileage for it to happen. What year is it and has it been subjected to a lot of urban traffic with serious clutch usage?

Just as well it's under warranty because a slave is a 5hr repair and usually entails new clutch and pressure plate owing to the slave being part of the release and the fluid lost contaminating the friction material.

Same thing happened to my Mums R75, only hers made a loud whirring sound when the clutch pedal was down or up, so, it turn out to be at Slave Cylinder, so athe that same time got the clutch replaced together with the slave cylinder and the gear linkage changed which was full of excessive slop.

That would explain it! I am convinced mine only failed because in the last 12-18mths it has spent a lot of time on the drive while I was travelling.

Good to hear they are being reasonable about it Kevin. So often they try the 'wear & tear' excuse.
Don't let them put any oil in the clutch ! ! !

Kevin, let them fix the car but do not pay the first £50.00 or for any oils used!

Under the Sale of Goods Act the car has to be of 'merchantable quality' and this clearly is not. You are covered for a minimum of six months by that. It doesn't matter if the £50.00 is part of the conditions of the warranty because in law the SOGA takes precedence over it.
