Default 2.5 engine out, now what?

The engine of my Tourer, 35000 miles 2002 model is out for strip and quote HGF. I don't think (hope and pray)there are other problems, and I don't suspect overheat.
What should I check for when they do the job. And what should be replaced while the unit is out.
I fully intend to do the job right and make the car as good as possible.
I already have nightmares about rounded bolt-heads and screws, dirty finger marks and scratches, etc.!!
Also what are we looking at in terms of time to take engine out, replace two HG and re-fit.
Thanks.
