Camshaft woes need help
Hello
I have a mg zt 1.8 53 plate. Noticed an oil leak recently nothin terrible jus a few spots in the mornin. Had the 4 camshaft seals replaced today, after an hour parked at home noticed drops again. Went back to mgr services in Coventry and thy said the seal was leaking already. They noticed some pitting on the camshaft and suggested this might be the cause. Just really want a rough idea of how much it would cost to be replaced. Really love the car so want it fixed. |

The main question is does it really need doing, or is it something that will not really affect the car. The loss in in oil is not noticeable.
Been quoted 499 by the garage to replace them, even if bought second hand it will still cost a lot to get fixed, so jus want to know is it worth it Last edited by harrisongs; 30th June 2011 at 16:21.. |

I had this problem (pitting where the seal seats) when i bought my car back in 2009,which resulted in a small weep past the seal.I suggested to the garage that we fill the pitting with something like Araldite, which we did,and i haven't had a problem since. The seal is now completely effective.

£499 to replace 2 camshafts seems a bit steep, not too bad a job
