No doubt some brisk walks will get it into shape , you will probably find it's been given too many treats .
Pick him up He'll have to shed a few pounds before i can do that. I am sure you are correct about the treats & also a lack of walking i think too. We will ge there with him - nice & steady away.

Our last chocolate lab was over weight when we rescued her. You need to get this weight off her ASAP.
It is common for labs to suffer with their rear hips (hip dysplasia) , and once the arthritis sets in, using exercise becomes difficult.

It is high likely that an overweight lab WILL suffer from the following in later years:

Arthritis
Diabetes
Blindness

Lab's are walking dustbins and will eat until they make themselves sick - they dont simply stop when they are full.
I suggest getting him as much exercise as possible and a good quality low protein diet food. avoid ANY titbits altogether.

Looks and sounds like a great dog! He doesn't look too lardy, but then I guess if he is overweight, then it is best to trim him down a bit

Our two are Labradoodles and to an extent, have inherited the Labrador eating gene. Maddy (the small one) loves her evening meal and would gladly have Charlie's if we let her (she's good and never steals it) but she isn't too worried about snacks. Charlie (the big one) often doesn't want her tea, but open a bag of crisps and she's there before you can get one out of the packet, even if she's upstairs and you are down!

Weighed them at the vets last week by the method prescribed above. Maddy was easy at 21kg (and can still see the readout), Charlie was a "quick, what does it say? I need to put her down" at 34kg.....

My Lhasa Sonny was four pounds underweight when I got him 13 weeks ago and is now spot on the correct weight.

On the other hand I have now lost seven pounds due to all the walking again

Good luck on the diet for Max he's a lovely looking dog

Absolutely goegeous dog, and I agree with whoever said he doesn't look too overweight. Given dog food only and plenty of walks should be enough to get him to his ideal weight.

Phil - Just be careful Oscar isn't being over-protective, it's quite cute at first but it can develop into a real problem if left unchecked. Some dogs end up attacking when they feel threatened ie when their pack leader gets up close and personal with an intruder on the couch............
