fuel flow problem

Hello everyone,
I am a bigoted individual who thinks the MLS HG should be removed from all existence.
LONG LIVE THE ELASTOMER!!
Anyway, not why I'm here!

I've seen much info about fuel filters for the R75.
Some leak, and need a clip, some don't.
Also, there are different pumps.

Can anyone clarify which pump goes with which filter, or will either go with either?
My pump has two small finger loops, which filter should I have, and would the other one fit?

I need a new pump (it gets 12 volts but remains silent) how can I be sure I get the right one?
Can the filter be faulty (don't want to take it out if I don't have to, don't want to damage the seals).
Any help greatly appreciated.
I know a little bit about Rovers myself, so I'll try to help others where I can.

Hello Nick and

to the club.

It's very unusual for a KV6 petrol pump to fail. I'd just like to check that you know that after turning on the ignition, it will receive +12v for only two seconds.
When cranking the engine however it should receive a continuous supply. Is this what you've measured?

Hello there special division 1too, read many of your posts, nice to meet you!
I'm aware you think KV6 fuel pumps are reliable, they are indeed sir, but every part can fail eventually.
Worked one day, parked up, next day, nothing.
(had an identical problem on my last 45, what a bother having to take the tank out! And what a waste of a perfectly good inspection hatch!)

I got the voltage for a couple of seconds on Ignition but I was working on my own and I was one hand short to hold the multimeter, plug and keys all at once! So not checked for voltage while cranking.
But, pump was silent even with 12 volts up it (removed from tank, but not unplugged or unpiped anything).

On that point, if anyone doesn't know, the electric clip on the pump slides sideways!!! I blame the Germans.

But, I've boggled my head reading so many threads on this.
What pump is which? are they interchangeable?
Likewise, the filter?

Anyone got an old one (working) for sale?

If the motor in the pump is not working for sure, Jules Conwy off here can supply you an original pump. I have one in my diesel.

If you're at all unsure I would recommend repeating the test but this time with an assistant to operate the key whilst you monitor what's happening at the business end.

As far as I know, on the petrols (except turbo) there's two versions of fuel pump and two versions of filter. The change over for both was in 2002. The Rimmer Bros site has more detail and gives a VIN changeover for each: https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID001965

I've not had a completely failed pump on our KV6 fleet but had one with low pressure so swopped and now back to 3.5 bar. If you've checked with an external power source directly to the pump plug and it doesn't work then DMGRS have got new pumps too. Link: https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/products/rov...3cb032d1&_ss=r

Hi guys, thanks for all your inputs.
I forget who it was, in another post, put a pic up of the fuel tank plumbing - many thanks to the Sir and/or Madam who did so!!

Had the pump out to test, didn't hear it hum at all when I tried it, but it was getting the volts.
Anyway, thanks to the pic I knew what I was seeing, so I looked in to see a white plastic tray that the pump filter sits on.
Dry as a bone, even though gauge and the mileage I'd done since filling said fuel was in the tank.

Poured unleaded straight down the whole where the pump sits.
Refitted pump. Tightened up the lock ring, which promptly popped off again so left it.
Turned the key.
The car fired INSTANTLY. Note the caps.
I've had the car 6 months and it always starts first time, after 1.5 - 2 seconds of yinginginginginginging from the starter motor.
This time, first time ever, despite the cold and a slightly flat battery (11.6 volts) it went yingyivroom.

Thanks very much for posting the reason for your KV6 not starting and I expect you're pleased that you don't "need a new pump" after all ....

It's interesting that it didn't run, despite having a 12v supply, when there was no fuel to pump.

I wonder if anyone else has experienced this?
