Side Sensor Right TOAF Airbag -- Check my logic please!

Hi all,


Have just purchased a 2002 ZT 2.5 auto with the airbag light on. On all the 75s my dad had, it was just a matter of jiggling the cables under the seat, but this hasn't fixed the issue (especially as the connectors on both sides have been cut off and soldered). I firstly tried WAGO connectors, but that didn't help either -- does mean I can lift the seat out now if I need to.


I ordered a TOAF cable and pulled the codes today; as you can see in the image it's complaining about the right hand impact sensor. Googling around, it seems that this can be caused by a sunroof leak, and sure enough the carpet under the drivers' seat is damp.


Does it sound reasonable that the two issues are related? I'm going to permanently seal the sunroof with some silicone, I think.



I feel like it's probably a case of needing a new impact sensor, but I can't seem to find one for 2002 models. Any idea where I should start looking?

Hello and to the club.

Yes I'd say it's reasonable to suspect that water has infiltrated the impact sensor to cause the communication error. It would be a shame to render your sunroof unusable, particularly when the day comes that you want to sell the car.

I'd suggest that you dry out the carpets and remove the sensor to a warm place for 48 hours. In the meantime search for club member Arctic's solution for the sunroof problem. It's a joint in the drain tubes which is responsible if I remember correctly and it can be modified to prevent a recurrence.

Hi, thanks for the reply & welcome. The sunroof is inoperable anyway -- it's not the fuse so I suspect there's a break in the wiring somewhere. I think I'll use some clear PU sealant so it can be scraped away in future.

Replacements for these earlier sensors are getting difficult to find. NLA at Rimmer's. Part no. YDB100310

Avoid those with white oxide as they've probably been swimming.

Or post in the "Wanted" section, some people like Arctic are know for their extensive hoards

If you need to test, TOAF lets you deactivate various bits of the SRS system. Sorry I can't remember if the impact sensors are included... but if so, it might help you to ascertain if that is indeed the problem...

The white corrosion on the base of the sensor can force itself under the seal betwen the base and the green plastic. It did on mine and there was water inside. NOT recoverable.
