I don't know Dave?
I hope you are keeping well. I did check the mounting in the boot and clean as a whistle and in its proper position. Steve did make me wonder when he mentioned corrosion in his last post - she is an old girl now! Looking at how the car was sitting when I picked My Wife up tonight the spring is compressed by about three to four inches compared to when the car is sitting at normal ride height. If I can get access to get my spring compressor in there then it should be no problem, I just want to avoid any damage due to a sudden release and am not sure how much energy the rear spring would hold at that amount of compression. the front ones certainly have my utmost respect when compressed! |

Had this last year Brian. Try jacking the car up to take the weight off the wheel with the seized shock absorber and leaving it for a few hours or even overnight. Mine righted itself and then could be dismantled safely.

It could be worth, whilst its blocked up, to give the wheel a few hefty whacks with a copper hide mallet, or a lump hammer, obviously protecting where you are hitting it with a piece of wood, with a similar force as you would getting a wheel corroded onto a hub. Be aware though, at that compression it may well let go and travel to its full extension in less than the blink of an eye.

Success!!!
Traffic was not so bad tonight so I got to My Wifes workplace with a bit of time before she was due to finish. Following Mike Noc's experience of the benefits of "letting it hang" i decided to give it a go. I also took my "Thor" hammer in case it was called for. I had a section of sleeper that i proposed to put under the rear jacking point and leave the car overnight. As I was raising the car with my trolley jack on another section of sleeper under the central rear jacking point the rear wheel started lifting straight away on the affected side. When I got to the point when I had about another 1/4" to go before i could slide the piece of sleeper under the jacking point the car started to very slowly start to topple off the jack to that side. Nothing dramatic, but the jack at the back went over. As i got ready for another attempt I noticed that it was not so low on that side. Things were happening. A couple more attempts like the first and things were looking good. I then was able to undo the lower shock bolt without any worry as things were pretty much normal again. As i was getting the shock off my Wife finished work so i finished taking it off so i could swap the bits over wnd will fit replacement tomorrow. If anyone finds themselves in the same situation i would suggest that they try jacking the car up and dropping itdown quickly a few times or blocking it up and leaving to "hang" for a bit to see if a bit to see if that does the trick. Many thanks to all the suggestions. |

Hi Brian.
Nice to hear you have had some good news on the problem, i presume you will be changing out the other one too, so has not to relive the same fail, i would personally

Plus a pair of springs which i ordered when Manda sent me a photo from work showing it low on one side. Springs are fine at the moment so will replace at leisure. |
