Obsessing about mobile phone use is all very well, it is undoubtable dangerous, but as a high mileage driver I have an endless list of equally dangerous things I have seen being done whilst driving.

Eating a burger and fries whilst holding the jumbo drink in the other hand.

Bottle feeding a baby in its car seat.

searching round on the floor for a dropped item

Putting on makeup

Cleaning the inside of the windscreen at 70mph on the motorway

Reading delivery notes/maps etc

Ever seen the people in London doing "The knowledge" on their mopeds? they have a 2ft square clipboard fastened to the handlebars in front of them!! they spend more time looking at this than the road.

Add to this the amount of tech and gadgets in modern cars, most of which use touch screens. Ever tried figuring out a BMW I-drive whilst stationary, nevermind while driving!!

Nobody has any idea how many accidents these things cause as figures aren't gathered.

Phone use is an important thing to get the message across on, but its one on MANY things that need addressing

You missed one out Neil........

And it's possibly the only reason I might have a future accident.

This is all history in the making, and we are all part of it as the days/months/years tick on by. The time has come for a whole new set of rules to counterbalance the world of technology in today's vehicles, even the carefree approach that some drivers have, this is all set to change over the next 10 years.

Yep driverless cars, we are always being told on films by computers how stupid humans are. "and so shall it come to pass" , that they will run the world and our driving

I agree mobile phone fines while driving should be increased and maybe all people caught are also sent on a course to show the errors of they ways. Loosing a days pay or holiday might also make people think a bit more.

The problem is the Police should practice what they preach, last month I was next to a police car at some traffic lights and the driver was on his phone, I looked across at him and raised my eyebrows and he immediately put it down. If I had been braver I would have taken a picture and reported him but I don't fancy being pulled over for having a dirty car or what ever other thing they can dream of.

The problem is wider than just phones obviously - I suspect we all have a horror list of crazy drivers doing crazy things whilst behind the wheel.

The two that stand out for me are a) the middle aged couple having a blazing row on the A338 Ringwood to Salisbury road, she was driving and suddenly stopped abruptly in the road got out and walked off.

b) the Van driver on the M3 wandering about in the middle lane because he had his Newspaper on the steering wheel and he was trying to read it.

But both of the above are the exception rather than the rule compared to the sheer number of people I see on their phones or worse still obviously txting whilst driving.

And yes touch screen items in the car will be a temptation to take eyes off the road. I have to confess I find the Climate Control panel on the ZT an extreme umNAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-ence when I need to change the settings. It is set too low in the dash and the buttons and the display are far too small.

I much prefer the simplicity and ease of use of the lower speck straightforward A/C dials. They are like my previous Disco which was brilliant in that you could alter the temp and air direction with a hand movement without taking your eyes off the road. You could turn and set the dials from memory without looking.

Not something I have found at all possible with the ZT-T.
