The 'I'm a wally' thread
Well, as I've done something really daft, I thought I'd tell you all about it.
This morning I went to do an oil change on my new ZT-T; the oil was like treacle. New oil and filter in hand, tools at the ready - excellent. Let's crack on. Old oil drained, new filter fitted, all hunky dory. New oil in... except nothing showing on the dipstick. Turns out, I'd not put the sump plug back in, and had no car to go and get more oil with! So, what have you done that's made you feel like a right wally? I'm now waiting for a taxi...

Hope you left a container under the drain hole or your drive is going to be a right mess
As to what made me feel like a wally Fitted a 16 camera CCTV system and when I powered it up realised I had fitted all 16 upside down! In my defence they were "eyeball" type cameras and its not easy to tell which way is up with them. Sods law says that it had to be one of those times when the customer was looking over my shoulder when I powered it up. Considered just turning the monitor over as well but ended up putting them all right Last edited by neilb740; 25th June 2014 at 11:10.. |

Getting married 3 times.
Only kidding . I once sat on the trunk of a fallen 300 yr old oak tree , as I cut off a branch with my chainsaw the whole tree started to roll , it went one way and I leapt off the other way |

In my few few weeks as an apprentice mechanic in 1980, I was given mini clubman to drive out of the workshop after someone else had done a service. I drove it out and around the large car park. Then I went in and asked what the orange light was for on the dials.
It was then pushed back in for the oil to be added............. |

We have another contender here - my friend!
After changing his steering rack, he dropped the car down and tried to reverse it off his drive. Cue a horrible scraping... he'd left the container used to catch the PSF under the car, and it was now about 3" less deep.

And another from me - while changing the solenoid on my automatic gearbox, I managed to drop the gearbox end plate in the tub of ATF. As the end plate was dirty, I had to replace all the ATF I'd taken the effort to save.
What a wally.

I jacked up the back of a car (Not the MG!) without chocking the front wheels once...
It was only on a very slight slope but rolled off the jack (one of those crumby windy jacks) and it got stuck under the car. Had to leave the car there for two days before I could borrow another jack to lift the car off the first one! |

Perhaps not quite as serious as some of the previous "entries", but pretty dumb anyway:
Today I was washing my '75 using my newly purchased pressure washer. I had just given the car a good pre-wash using some snow foam, and was about to get started hand washing it with a bucket of Meguires Gold Class shampoo (2 bucket method, of course ) Anyhow, I thought that the bucket of car shampoo had lost a lot of its suds whilst I was prewashing the car, so knew just the thing to get them back: Fire off the pressure washer into the bucket to agitate the mixture - what could possible be wrong with that? As you can probably guess, firing the pressure washer into the bucket produced a soapy fountain of epic proportions which went all over me from head to toe. Oops!! It did produce some nice suds though, just not much water left in the bucket. At least there were no witnesses. Cliff

Not me but my ex Mrs, when she was the GF went out with a friend of hers in her friends Vauxhall Viva so the two girlies went to the seaside for the day, when setting off they found the exhaust hanging down so decided to use a cardie and tie it to "the long metal thing" underneath the car to hold it up, then they set off, turns out the "long metal thing" was the prop shaft I don't need to tell you what happened next!!
