KV6 starting issue
I have a intermittent issue when starting the car, turn the key and all the correct dash lights are illuminated but the starter does not operate. No clicking noises at all just completely dead. Turn it off and on again and it usually starts as normal but can take a couple of attempts. It could be fine for a couple of days and then play up once or twice and then fine again. I have checked the wires to the starter which all appear tight. Does anyone have any idea of what could cause this issue?

If it has the same type of starter solenoid as a diesel then it sounds like worn solenoid contacts. Not a huge job to do.

make sure you purchase the correct solenoid kit for your engine gearbox combination. First time will take you under 2 hours. when you have done a few 45 mins

Update
I replaced the solenoid contacts and was fine for a while, it then gradually started to play up again. Fitted a new ignition switch and all is well again. Starts everytime now and has for the last 3 weeks. |

Same problem with the ignition switch.
Apparently, this is not a frequent problem.
Yet my mechanic had a similar experience on another 75 a week ago. He identified the problem when he wiggled the white / red cable - connects the ignition switch to the EWS. Move this cable and the Car would start, jiggle the wire a little and nothing happened. He tells me that there was evidence that this car had had a Nokia phone connected by an earlier owner. There was also other signs of tampering behind the ignition switch area. Like NickAX54 he replaced the ignition switch and all was well again. First time during his 19 years 75/ZT experience that he had come across this problem. |
