Red face Vis a... Vis

So I obtained a pair of new vis motors for the ZT. I installed them with great care and attention. Such great care that I completely failed to transfer the seals from the old motors. So, unaware of the omission, I checked the screws were tight and started her up.
Oh. My. Word. She was NOT happy. Not happy at all. Very loud hissing noise from under the bonnet, revs going bonkers.
I did a Google. Realised I had goofed. Replaced the horizontal motor seal, but for reasons I cannot explain (because I have no idea why!) I didn't transfer the seal on the vertical motor.
Started her up again. Quieter, but still revving like bananas. Realised my mistake. Replaced the other seal. I fear it is too late. The arrow on the socket is beyond the arc. She's as lumpy as a very lumpy thing.
Please, please, please could the wise heads on here advise me as to how to make her better?
Any advice very welcome indeed.
🙏🙏🙏

Don’t worry, you’re not the first to make this mistake - the resident expert Stocktake actually mentions the over-revving in his fitting instructions.
Can’t see how fitting without the gasket could cause the mark to pass the arc but it’s happened. If you bought the motor from Stocktake I’d suggest returning it to him as he’s usually very sympathetic to mishaps.

Regards

Hi there, and many thanks for your kind reply. I didn't buy them from Stocktake, but it is my long term plan to send the old ones to him so he can work his magic!

If you have cured the air leaks, the car shouldn't be running lumpy.

Hi Dale.
I would suggest you send you old ones to (Stocktake) Dave.

Once you receive them back, send him the new one/s for correction, or if you are not using the car very much at the moment send them all in one go, I am sure he will be accommodating.

Drop him a PM

My grateful thanks for the advice and comments folks. I have plugged the brake booster pipe back in. As to the lumpy revs, I suspect that despite fixing the air leak, I rogered the motor, leading it to malfunction, presumably confusing the onboard computer no end. Unless having working vis motors has triggered a fault elsewhere that wasn't manifested while neither motors were working and the inlet manifold just rattled away happily?

Must agree with Typhoon190 if you've fixed the air leaks the engine shouldn't be running lumpy. If you have disturbed the initial motor setting on the balance (vertical) motor then ensure the flap is in the open position and run with the motor unplugged. As for unsetting the main ECU - I think you can forget that, something else is going on here.

Must admit when I read genpk's post I thought "what's he on about?" and went out to look at one of my V6s. I suppose I've fitted 50+ motors and never disconnected that pipe.

Got four motors myself that I'll be sending off to Stocktake in the next few days, I know there are cheap motors available now but none with his modifications or his after sales service.

Good hunting

Sorry, Missed this one.

As far as I know when you start the motor with no Vis motors fitted or no seals this causes an excess of air into the manifold and as such the ECU tries to compensate for this adding more fuel. when you fit the seals this leaves it with a super rich mixture.

I am not sure if this rectifies its self through driving or a battery off reset will help as on the few occasions this has happened the person has never come back and confirmed the outcome. There is also a version of battery off and once this is off touching the pos and neg leads on the car together sorts out some problems.

Regardless of this Dale (Howie666) pm me for my address and then you can send me your Vis motors. I will check/reset/repair your motors FOC

Just as Dave said above: it will rectify itself.

I did the sane thing when fitting new VIS motors and had the same issue. More recently, I forgot to re-fit a vacuum pipe when messing around with the throttle body and the same thing happened. Even with the faults corrected, the car was pretty much undrivable.

On each occasion, I left it alone for a while and upon re-starting, all was well once again. I think the ECU just needs time to settle down and do it's stuff.
