Had an hour under the 75 today, swapping the lower engine mount and tidying up & greasing the f>r brake lines.

The original lower mount was starting to split, resulting in some clunkiness in the transmission which has considerably reduced.

The brake lines were in good shape with only slight corrosion in a couple of places where they are held in the clips. They cleaned up well enough and hopefully won't degrade.

A bit of an awkward design, you need to apply anti-clockwise torque to the tensioner plate and then lock the clamp bolt once the correct tension is achieved, 47Nm in the case of a new belt. 1/2" Torque wrench and 22mm socket for the tensioner plate hex bolt, and 3/8" socket wrench with 10mm socket for the clamp bolt then the pivot bolt when that's done, then torque both to 24Nm:

I'm with Jules on the belt tensioning torque - 47Nm is stated by Rover, but they run perfectly well with less, and should last longer too.

After doing a few of these I find it quicker to work from above and underneath so no need to remove the wheel or the inner liner but each to their own.

Perfectly possible without removing the wheel or liner, Mike. It was my first time changing the belts on the 75 so I just followed the Rover procedure. 47Nm is a lot of torque to get on the manual tensioner. I'll maybe loosen it off a bit next time I'm under the car. I'd have thought 35Nm would be plenty. However, it's squeek free, for now.

Finally got round to replacing the lazy O/S/F door actuator at the weekend, so I've now got 4 doors opening on the remote. Now I just have to remember to stop using the key!

I have three cars running with the belt tightened to 40Nm long term with no problems.

Haven't changed any of them yet - it will be interesting to see if the ribs have multiple cracks in like the ones I took off.

I am glad someone else has done the same as I did with regards to the tightening of the belts. Last year my friend and I both changed our aircon and auxiliary belts. Second time around. I do the underneath work, and when it came to putting the tension on the belts, we both thought that it was to high and could cause early failure of either components or belts. We set a lower limit, can not remember what it was, but we have not had any probs with anything yet. Fingers crossed. What we both noted was that the aircon belt had cracks in, but the aux belt was ok, even when bent backwards. Both 6 years old.

Put the winter wheels on, and another good wash.

Well ... I have been using a 'superfine' G3 final polishing compound, doing a panel at a time by hand as a machine polish just isn't needed.
After doing that I have been using a two stage paint sealant (only available from my wife's work... Nissan dealership) and today I bought some Simoniz Carnuba wax to finish things off.
Doing it by hand requires a whole lot more effort but it's very satisfying.
Just another five panels to go ! ... i must be a real glutton for punishment.
