Heated Wing Mirror
The nearside mirror doesnt heat up. Is the heater element seperate from the glass or would I have to get complete replacement.
Can this be done with mirror in place without removing door trim and complete mirror. |

The heater is part of the glass and is stuck to the plastic back plate, this comes out as one unit on its own by pulling it out from the front. Check that you have a permenant 12V with the ignition on and check the connections before replacing anything

The wiring connector and the spade connector at the mirror are two different metals, corrosion occurs.Perhaps remove the glass and clean the two connections initially.

Thanks for comments.
Can I take glass out to check connections etc with door mirror in place on door and if so how do I take out glass. Can I still obtain new glass from somewhere if needed. Thanks again. |

Simply lever the glass out with something wodden or plastic so as not to scratch the surround, the rest of the mirror stays without bieng disturbed. Replacement glass with heater available from Rimmers and ebay, I would say it is a supply problem rather than the element.

Almost certainly as said above the dissimilar metals react and it stops the current passing. pop out the glass and disc the wires and try to clean the joints use a multimeter to check the heater element for resistance as opposed to open circuit

MkII skullcap do not have 3 ball and socket fittings like MkIs, if you lever it out it will break the single plastic plastic mount, as I did the first time I removed a MkII skullcap glass.
