Default aircon/cooling fans

should my fan [cooling] run when i switch my aircon on?because it doesent, and i dont think it ever has.The other thing that happens when you press the auto button temp drops to 16 but stays hot,the only way to get aircon is to drop the temp to lo is this normal?

It sounds like your slow speed fan system has failed. The fan should run continuously when the system is in Auto. It should turn off when you switch to Econ. In this freezing weather, the fan may not run, but you say it never has. Even today, it should run when you press the Demist button. That trips aircon on as well as the fan (or should).

Depending on the age of the car, you'll either need a new motor or a new slow speed resistor. The latter are mainly fitted to facelift models.

The strange behavious of the climate control is probably due to the failure of the aircon system to work properly. It may well come right when the fan's working properly.
