Now that's frustrating! I'm at work, and the image is blocked on our systems.

I'll have a look this evening as soon as I get in. I take it it's the pin layout for the Grom? In which case, it should certainly shed some light.

Many thanks,

Cliff

Its the pin out from the 20 pin connector into the grom unit and corresponding pins on the Mini ISO

IE:
Bus: pin 1 at grom unit goes to pin 3 mini iso

As said before, I cut the iso off and connected the black 2x5 pin adaptor that went onto my CD player. will take some pictures of it today if I get time for you not to look at .

That's exactly what I need. I have already found the pin layout for the Symphony in another thread, so if there are any errors in the cable, all should be revealed.

Many thanks,

Cliff

Hi Stocktake

Thanks for the helpful diags. I have now had a chance to check the pin connections on my Grom and as far as I can see, they all check out ok with one small difference:

The only variance being that my lead had an additional connection to pin 5 on the Grom Molex connector. This goes to pin 4 on the mini ISO and is one of 2 pins labelled "A GND" (pins 4 & 5 on mini ISO). The Molex in the diag supplied to you by Grom shows only one "A GND" pin on the Molex (pin 2).

I'd be interested to hear if David Lawrence finds the same with his.

Regards,

Cliff

Cliff,

Just checked my lead. Exactly the same as yours and also with the extra wire. But they all check out with your diagram, stocktakes diagram and also Rave diagram. So it must be a problem in the box itself.

We know that the power connections are correct because the USB stick does what it is supposed to when first turned on. The other wires are all audio signal wires so are not important in terms of the radio recognising the G~ROM so that leaves just the K-Bus wire on pin 3 (19) white one, which mustnt be giving the symphony what she wants.

This all suggests that a firmware upgrade may be a fix for us. We can wait a few days for G~ROM in USA to work it out.

They told me today that they are expecting to receive a symphony radio any day now and will be able to find a solution then.

I don't know if this would make any difference at all but as you know mine is the hiline system and the CD player was in situ, I just cut the plug off and wired it as per diagrams.

did read on one of the Grom pages that sometimes the bus connection is poor due to size of pins

only other anomaly is I have a Mk 3 BMW sat nav unit fitted as opposed to the rover one.

HI David,

Thanks for the update - at least we know it's probably not the lead at fault.

It's reassuring to know that Grom are taking the issue seriously, but on the other hand, this does suggest that they hadn't really tested the unit design prior to sale. Their compatibility chart says Rover 75 '99 - 05.

Just seen this thread on the dark side:
http://forums.mg-rover.org/showthread.php?t=310281

If my understanding is correct, it seems that if the "new" KBus wire is connected to the "old" CD changer KBus wire, it should work. Mind you, the pic showing the connections at the back of the Symphony is very different to mine (and looks like a DIY job from the number of block connectors in the background).
