Default ZT-T Diesel starter inoperative

Hi all,
I do not have the wiring diagrams for my ZT_T Diesel auto facelift.

The fault is, turn the key, normal dash lights, turn to start, nothing.

I can hear the gearshift inhibit clicking on moving the lever, but there is no signal on the thin wire at the starter motor when turned to the start position.

I f the ignition is on and I take a feed directly to the starter “go” terminal the motor works normally

I assume there is a further relay between the key and the starter solenoid, but I have no idea where it is.

Can anyone recommend a test routine to determine the fault?

Many thanks in anticipation,

Mike.

When I had this it turned out to be the copper contacts inside the starter motor (but you have tried a direct feed and it works) ...

But simple things first :

Have you checked for loose +ve and or -ve leads on battery terminals?

Are you absolutely sure the leads are firmly pushed down on the battery terminals? I've fallen foul of this as has my brother. You must make sure it is pushed down firmly and the leads are touching the base of each terminal, otherwise the lead's contact becomes a bit suspect and will be loose no matter how much you tighten the terminal.

I think you have probably already done this :

Could you check for loose terminals on the starter motor. Check for tightness and firm connections on the big and small leads. Also check for corrosion.

Hi,

Yes I have tested the usual contacts and earths for volts drop. The battery is at 12.7 and about 10 Volta at the starter when cranking. The volts drop starter body to battery when cranking is 1.5 volts.

It is the power to the “go “ wire at the starter that I am missing.

Hi Mike

I believe the Lucar wire is fed from the ECU and immobiliser, so sounds like a guru will need to advise on what the issue may be ... not me.

Cheers

Andrew

Hi Mike.
Even though you can start the car with a lead from battery to the starter spade, it does not mean the contacts are in good enough condition, remove the starter and check inside, also clean up the spade end, then see if it starts that is if you have not done so already, link below for you.

Try a different key/fob if you have a spare one.

Could be a problem at the INHIBIT switch itself.--

Even though clicking it still may be stuck in INHIBIT mode.--

I can hear the inhibit switch working a relay, but I can’t find the relay to test it’s output.
