Welding galvanised steel used to be a bit of a no no.eek:
Due to the fumes., but if you clean off the plating then you have protect the metal again as welded areas are probe to rust even better  C

I would cut some off a scrap car Andrew, at least you know its the correct metal and your bodyshop will be able to fit whatever metal they need.

I agree with Trikey on this.. I bought one of these repair panels to sort out some wheel arch corrosion but my bodyshop preferred to go cut a section out of a scrapper than use the panel i purchased.

My only concern with taking of a scrap car is how do I know I'm not buying metal which will rust in 3-6 months? (if its been on a car which has been used for 20 years or more in all weathers and is now scrapped) Manu years ago I had rear wheelarches replaced (or at least parts cut out and other parts put in) on a Renault. It looked amazing when I collected it and was rusty again in 6 months time so I'm not overly hopeful with what can be achieved I thought fresh metal might be a good way to go Andrew

There no real difference between new metal and 20 year old metal as long as its not rusty
, any decent welded repair will be ok as long as it retreated/protected properly.A quick weld jobbie covered in filler won't last at all unless the moisture is completely sealed out !!  C Quote:
