Default Angle of lean, before it topples?

Going back to this car lift I have just purchased and an unusual question...

It only lifts one wheel at a time. Lift a rear wheel and due to the engine weight holding both front wheels firmly on the ground, the entire rear is lifted. Lift a front wheel and that side of the car is raised up.

I can with this lift raise the front wheel on one side, the underside of the tyre, by up to 1 metre with the other front wheel remaining on the ground.

Obviously if one side is raised to far, it will topple over on its side - believe me, 1 metre really is quite high . Has anyone any suggestions as to how far from the vertical it is safe to go.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Well the Routemasters could do a good metre:

Sadly the Higer Bus didn't do quite as well:

Any photos of your new lift Harry?

It seemed they didn't test the Routemaster until it toppled, but only to 34 degrees of list. The Higer went to 42.5 degrees, where it toppled - hope it was a scapper to begin with. It seemed senseless to not restrain it.

They did seem to load up the Routemaster with a simulated passenger load, though not the Higer.

Well spotted Rodger.

The Higer bus is actually leaning further than the standard test too.

I used to work in the coach game and rumour had it that two companies cheated the tilt test to get a pass - you only had to do an initial test when importing a new vehicle.

That lift looks useful Harry - I wouldn't worry about it lifting too far though, the vehicles in the photos look stable enough.

It's actually an RTL not an RT. RTL was a Leyland Titan chassis, RT was an AEC Regent. Bbut very similar bodywork on each.

Your right, didn't look at the bonnet No. RTL286 is Park Royal bodied.

Impressive how they used to refurbish both the RT's and the RTL's back in the day.

With RM's and I suspect RT(L), when a bus went into the works, it never came out with the same chassis (RT) or subframes (RM) as it took longer to overhaul the body. There was some 'arrangement' with the Ministry regarding bus No's to keep them in ticket, with bus No's being swapped. LT were a law unto themselves as they were even the licensing authority for London and prevented competition.

Crikey, I'd be terrified of having it at any 'lean' more than a few inches between tyre and road - but I'm not very adventurous.
