Try swapping front and rear tyres around first just in case it is the tyre wear pattern causing the noise etc.

With most modern bearings there is no movement or play, only a rumbling noise..

Hi. I had a similar 'bearing' problem a few years ago, when cleaning the tyres and checking pressures noticed wear was uneven on one tyre, not the normal outside or inside edges but in one patch the size of my palm. Potholes had damaged the internal braiding; the whirring noise was the tyre running out of round.

A one-minute check could save you a few quid on the wrong diagnosis.

My R75, owned 102k miles from new never had a bearing problem - esp with the *rap roads here in Herefordshire.

I had a similar problem and tried swapping the wheels (well putting the spare on) and it was a tyre with "flatspots" anyway a pair of tyres later and the car is nice and quiet

Well worth having a go before replacing the bearing
