Default Rover 75 Mk1 paint

So I'm sure this will have come up but on a quick search couldn't find.

What category does the paint on our Mk1 cars fall into. Is it hard or soft?

I've had VAG cars where the paint has been so hard it was difficult to make an impression.

Just wondering which pads and polish to start with for minimal correction (light scratches/swirls)

The paint is different on all cars depending on what kind of life it's had over the years. Always start with the least aggressive and work your way up if need be. Make sure you prep well and your paint is as clean as possible before you apply the polisher. 2bm, remove tar and iron deposits, clay and you're good to go.

The paint isn't as hard as vag for the most part but like said above least aggressive first, shouldn't be difficult to improve the finish

Like Jordan has said. The paint on our cars is typical BMW paint. And is very hard, don't know about the ZT but the 75 is very much like BMW's. To make some serious difference you need a wool pad or a microfibre pad. Using a finishing polish on a finishing pad actually doesn't do anything at all. Use a polishing or very light cutting pad with a finishing polish to do the last stage.

I found a 3M Trizact pad worked well on small swirls and marks, followed by a G10 compound then polish...

even on gloss primer...

You can still do correction with foam, I use blue 3m pads for polishing and black for finishing with 101 and 205 respectively. Admittedly you would be hard pushed to get above 90% correction with this and I was using rotary so the mf pad option is probably a better one for das6!

Serious performance make good ones apparently, I actually have some but sold my da before using them so they're sitting in the garage unused

Seeing as you're using menzerna you must remember to work it and keep working it until it cannot be worked anymore! This is when the hazing type finish starts to end and you can see shine through the polish.

Good thing about your setup is, when you get the hang of it you'll get better results than a lot of rotary users with smat polishes I.e. myself

Bit much for swirls but yes gives a great result, shame you seem to have struck through to primer on the whole panel

Hey Jordan, thanks for your interest and advice on my threads. PM me if you want to sell the unused MF pads. I will have a 5" backing plate on my set up.
