No the mpg isnt great. My old V6 did 33mpg on a run. Best I get anywhere in Blue is 25mpg. Normal travel is only a few miles so it wont get hot enough I guess. I think the last maybe 10 years at least it appears to have been a weekend car only so I need to get all the gunk out! I will get some Cataclean in and give it a good run, see how I go! Thanks everyone.

From experience a cat that is red hot will often pass where as the same car with the cat on an engine that has been left idling will fail. Some testers will help by various means if they think a bit of heat will get them through. Depends on how far off it is.

Well I had mine tested this last week and the fuel used by the tester on leaving it run was in excess of what I used in getting it to him, with the fan coming on too.
You've got a year Dawn, look at going to a meet a little further afield as I'm sure the members would be pleased at your attendance, and the car will be pleased with a reasonable run. |

Given that it's a 190 engine in the 180, I wonder if the cam timing is correct following the timing belt replacement, as this can have a huge affect on consumption. Brian |

Ah I didnt realize there was a difference! The consumption has always been the same before and after the belts. It doesnt bother me. I just wondered if it was part of the emissions thing. I shall report back after the Cataclean but as long as emissions go through the mpg is irrelevant. ☺

There is just one other thing that's not been mentioned. Catalysers do age and become less efficient. Yours, Dawn, may just be getting close to the end of its useful life.---

They do but often the worse cars are the ones used for short journeys, a car that is used mainly for long runs or lots of motorway use will often not need a cat.

Something I had forgotten but Brian's post reminded me. When Lates did the belts he said the timing had not been correct before. Could this also have caused things to get dirty/clogged?
