The 1.8 engine always had a 2 speed fan Ash.

Ok thats good to know.
I have recently bought a 75 - my first 75 after owning many other Rover models. The head gasket had failed so I have replaced that.

Running it up to temperature the fan does not come on, or hasn't yet.
I have tested the fan works on 2 speeds. One speed when I put the A/C on, and a higher speed when I bridge the A/C trinary switch. I wasn't sure if maybe it was a 3 speed fan and the lower speed is not working perhaps.

Maybe I just need to leave it running longer now I know its a 2 speed fan.
Will any diagnostic machines read engine temperature?

Hi and welcome to 1.8 K series ownership
You can run the OBD for the correct engine temp thus https://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/s...ad.php?t=55585
The numbers 19 then 7 are the crucial ones for temp.
Also, you can test the fan by turning the aircon off, then press the demist button. Go to the front of the car and see if the fan is working.

Pretty sure mine doesn't have a demist button, unless you mean heated rear screen?

The 1.8 engine doesn't trigger the first (low) speed until the coolant temperature reaches 104˚C.

That shows that your first (low) speed is working. You therefore don't need to do the demist test. You already have the answer!

Its the basic model I have with 3 dials.

So it may well be that the engine just wasn't hot enough to trigger the rad fan.
I just dont want it to overheat waiting for the fan to come on!

I'll check the temperature in the diagnostic mode.

Ive just done that instrument cluster diagnostic test and the fan did cut in at 104 degrees and it dropped to approx 88 degrees so all seems good.

Lets hope this head gasket lasts longer than 1000 miles this time.

Ash,

To avoid confusion in the future, could you update your profile to reflect the 75 you are enquiring about?

Thank you.
