Default Tyre protectors bolts too short

Hi the small bolts appear too short, I tried both protectors on both sides with the threads in the hole cleaned, so on less I’m doing something wrong then I need longer bolts, any help also tried a hit with hammer just in case they were a tight fit

they only go through two bits of thin metal, they wont be very long.
Can you post a picture of how you are trying to fit them

Afraid not wheel back on now, I can thread the bolts all the way through the hole but when trying with the protector the small bolt won’t catch the thread as if the protector is being held off the mounting just too far

There should be enough "flex" in the protector for it to work.

If the car hasn't had protectors fitted before, then the holes in the spring cup aren't threaded. The bolts supplied are self-tapping and have to be pushed into the hole so the tapered end allows it to enter and bite once you get it turning.

Both bolts should be located in their hole before starting the tightening stage.

what I meant in case someone thinks I was hammering the screws was I was hitting the protector to see if it would bump up a bit.

will retry today if it stays dry

lol, you need rubber mallets for 'forceful' fitting of components - So easy to damage things with the hard head of a hammer.
