Well glossing over the attempt to conceal the 'colourful' language - (It's not necessary and against forum rules.) It does look like your conclusion of a failed slave cylinder is correct. Just check and confirm that the leakage is hydraulic oil and not engine oil. If the brake fluid has also significantly dropped that's a separate issue. The clutch hydraulics are completely separate from the brakes - whatever the Haynes manual might say!

Default Big picture alert

Well without a shadow of doubt, that is a catastrophic failure of the slave cylinder seals.

New clutch time I'm afraid........any chance of having a word with the person you bought the car from?

Unfortunately the slave has failed and will require to be replaced along with the clutch, Is this something you could tackle yourself to cut down on repair cost?

Was it from a garage or private sale?

Sadly it was a private sale and the guy doesn’t seem to want to know. Not quite sure what to do.

Pretty obvious he’s bled it up to seem ok, while knowing full well that it was goosed.

Yep if you bleed it and clean fluid comes out then I'd put money on Mr Previous Owner knowing all about it and moving it on.

very sad for you but as they say Caveat Emptor! I got caught out years ago when buying a lovely looking Freelander. A week later, it was having a new intermediate gearbox fitted that cost me £1200, i reckoned that the previous owner also knew about that fault, despite his 'story' about getting divorced and wanting rid of car too!

I reckon most of us have been caught at some time buying a used car from a private seller and probably a few times from garages as well. A mate bought a tidy looking Mondeo from a garage site advertised in a paper, a week later when he found many faults he returned to find they had gone and apparently had only be there for a week.

My father told me this and I will never forget it, not many people sell a car unless there I something wrong with it. It could be the ashtray is full or it needs a wash but usually it is more and when buying a used car you need to work out why.

A relationship breakdown is often used as an exscuse but is the seller going to start walking to work?

My worse one was a 3.0 ltr Capri back in the 80's. Had it less than 5 days and I got off the motorway to find I had a knocking noise, plenty of oil pressure so I presumed it was suspension. The following day i had a proper listen and it sounded like it was the big ends I dropped the oil to find what looked like syrup in there, I replaced it with proper oil and I had no oil pressure and a very noisy engine. It cost me nearly 50% of what I had paid for the car to get a new engine and replace it.

Try to look on the bright side, without knowing who replaced the clutch, quality of work and slave cylinder make. Its a given that sooner or later it would let go. The bright side is the DMF majority of the time appears to be serviceable and the parts are not too expensive. Full LUK set or Borg and Beck 2 piece with LUK slave.

If you have the luxury of taking the car off the road it is DIYable and you will gets lots of advice on here, once it's done hopefully you will be good for 70k at least. All is not lost.
