At what point does the yellow CC light starting working on the dash? Switch is wired & lights up but no dash light. I'm assuming it will be when the buttons are connected on the wheel?

If you fancy going along to Trikey's meet on the 17th of February, I'll enable it properly for you

There is nothing more annoying that having to press resume to light up the cruise symbol, and having it lit constantly whether cruise is being used or not

Just like a factory install, rather than a bodge

Well since you put it that way, then I wholeheartedly agree with you!! You're a gentleman and possibly a scholar.

Dougie.

PS Wanna do a 160 remap for me while you're at it....??

Yes, i think you must connect steering wheel commands to get it all working. I cannot start Rave for some reason...

No worries. I've ordered Rave this evening for future work, and Brian's kindly offered (above) to put the final touch on the install so I'll have Resume working as a bonus.

Dougie.

Nice. I wish you enjoy the car totally and make some more mods and retrofits...

Talking She's a-runnin' ......

Absolute piece of cake in the end and found it was not necessary at all to remove the steering wheel. Switch & CCIU were plug & play. I pulled the airbag fuse rather than disconnect the battery and left it for 30 minutes, as whilst I'd taken the precaution to run the code-disable feature on my radio (VDO CD413x), I really did not wish to find it hadn't worked and be left with a radio with no code.

Airbag removed (T30 torx driver), removed the old horn buttons and ICE components and fitted my new ones with the CC buttons not yet mounted inside the wheel. Took the car for a test drive and found it worked (yay), although with the restrictions noted below.

It looked perfectly straightforward to make the cutout template on the plastic steering wheel body without the bullache of removing it, so used a piece of stiff paper, pressed it into the existing ICE cutout, creased the shape, cut it out, laid it in place on the right-hand side, and drew the outline on the inside of the plastic body. Then out with the dremmel, easy access, easy cut, removed the burrs, and pushed the new CC switch into place with a satisfying click. Fastened brackets, tidied loom inside the wheel, and went in for a glass of Talisker Skye seeing it was by now dark. The airbag can whistle for it until the morning.

Restrictions
This has been a straightforward install with the CC wiring already on the car. I knew the Resume function wasn't going to work and it didn't. However, this is the sequence of operation when driving, without T4 intervention after the installation:-

1. Switch cruise on at lower panel lighted switch (beside heated seats switches)
2. Press Resume (turns on CC, indicated by dash light)
3. Press Set and use in the normal way
4. Brake (disconnects CC in the normal way)
5. Press Set again and use in the normal way
however
if you press Resume again at any point, this turns the CC off completely. Restarting it is from 1. above.

I was happy enough to live with the expectation that Resume would simply not work, but having it act this way isn't acceptable. I'm therefore looking forward to having it tweaked on 17th Feb.

Cost - all from eBay
CCIU: £28.50
Switch: £10.00 (came on a 4-switch panel with the other switches - perfect)
Steering wheel controls: £18.00
Total cost: £56.50, 90 minutes using 1 x Phillips screwdriver, 1 x T30 driver, 1 x dremmel, 1 x zip tie

Bargain if you ask me. But the main thing to mention is that I would not have contemplated it without the forum, which is a magic resource. So much so that I'm going to shell out a tenner and contribute to the cause. Thanks.

Dougie.
