Passenger seat back adjustment broken
I just used one of those 'clean your aircon out' aerosol cans, and as per the instructions I pushed the passenger seat forwards and wound the seat back fully forward (it's a manually adjusted seat).
But now it won't move back again when I turn the adjustment knob. The knob turns, but the seat back doesn't move. I've tried pushing the seat back while turning the knob in case it was a sort of comb-cog arrangement that had simply slipped off the end of the comb, but nothing. Any ideas how to fix it?

Try pushing the knob inwards (towards the centre of the car) as you turn. The retainer washer has come off on my drivers side and it does this.
If not that, it might be the toothed belt. I'll try to post some pics later. |

Nice to know I'm not the only one, after a search didn't turn anything up, thanks!
I'll give it a go...

If it has come apart inside then you can get at the mechanism to either refit the belt or make any DIY fixes. You will need to remove the seat from the car, however, to successfully gain access to the screws and nuts that hold the outer plastic cover in place.

Pushing/pulling the knob didn't work, so I suppose it's going to have to be a seat out job. Not looking forward to that, so maybe my passengers are just going to have to sit up straight for a while!
Thanks for the replies, gents.

Finally got round to taking the driver's seat out. Discovered the problem was that the bolt from the knob had unwound itself from the retaining nut. Screwed back in again and hey presto, seat back adjuster working again.
Could have done it without taking the seat out!!
