Rear Suspension Arms - Movement on Rubber or Movement on Bolt
Hi, I have just bolted new suspension arms back into the rear subframe. But the arms are tight when torqued up. So much so that the arm seems to move on the rubber of the bush rather than the metal tube on the bush round the bolt. They feel very bouncy, as the inter metal tube of the bush is locked hard between the two faces inside the subframe.
is this correct or should the arm rotate around the bolt and not the rubber of the bush? Many thanks, Rich. |

the small angular movement of the arms should be via the rubber flexing.
But is best to clamp the arm bolts tight when the suspension is in its normal sitting position ( ramps is ok ) , not clamped while the car is jacked up on the body with the suspension dangling . C. Quote:

Wise advice above.
Final tighten with weight on the wheels. The rubber is not then forced to move in one direction only as this can make it tear.--- |
