ZT190- Binding rear brakes
Last week, the OS & NS rear brakes were binding on my 02 190, resulting in the wheel, hub, disc and caliper becoming pretty hot. I stripped the calipers and cleaned up the slides, greasing them before rebuilding. However, I wasn't too happy with them and ordered a rebuild kit to replace the pistons and seals, which I haven't been able to do yet.
My concern is that both sides have been binding, fairly convinced it's the calipers not the handbrake. What might be causing this behaviour? Over the last few weeks, I had a yellow ABS light come up on the message centre at random intervals. I couldn't find any fault with the ABS system so assumed it was down to a sensor which would need to be changed before MOT. Is the ABS system prone to this type of failure? Look forward to your collective wisdom |

Unlikely for two calipers to start to seize at the same time.--
More likely to be something that they are both connected to. Rusted up hand brake cable ????? |

Thanks Colvert. I don't *think* it's the handbrake as when I stripped the calipers the pads had clearly been binding on the discs. I'll need to replace those when overhauling the calipers.
I'd be happier if it was the handbrake as that would be fairly straightforward to sort. |
