1.8T Auto / V8 washer bottle and level sensor
Does anyone know when or why the design of the washer bottle (without headlamp wash) for the 1.8T auto and V8 changed?
The original part number on my car is DMB000280. The current version (available from Rimmers) is DMB000440. I've attached a photo of each below. There's an obvious "scoop" out of the original version (not far from where indicator would be), that is "filled out" in the newer bottle. Is this to accommodate the different bumper design for the facelift? I haven't tried fitting the bumper over it, but I can't see the new bottle fouling the Mk1 bumper And the opening for the Shannon tube is the same for both variants. Any ideas? Also, I think I've found an aftermarket replacement for the level sensor (original part number: DMI100000 (see link)): https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Febi-Wind...sAAOSwczhbVh58 This is a Febi part and looks exactly the same as the original, except for the fact that BMW (or some other branding) appears to have been scored away :O Cheers, Karl. FYI:
DMB000250 - washer bottle for the 1.8T auto (dual wash AND pre-facelift) DMB000280 - washer bottle for the 1.8T auto (no headlamp wash AND pre-facelift) DMB000420 - washer bottle for the 1.8T auto (dual wash AND facelift) DMB000440 - washer bottle for the 1.8T auto (no headlamp wash AND facelift) All are available from Rimmers apart from DMB000280. DMB000250 is the same except that it has an extra opening (presumably for the headlamp washer pump) which can easily be blanked off with a 20mm rubber bung (Mercedes/BMW part number: A2109870045 fits nicely). As for the low washer fluid sensor (OEM part No. DMI100001), I've found from testing that the Febi part I'd linked to in the post above works when it's fitted the opposite way up to the OEM set up (see pics attached). OEM light had never worked on my car, so I wonder if they'd made a booboo at manufacture i.e. that it should have been fitted the other way up all along? Cheers, Karl. Just to clear this up - the OEM installation of the fluid level sensor was, unsurprisingly, correct (see image attached). It had never worked on my car, but that must have been due to a faulty sensor. Now all working correctly. Cheers, Karl. |

Float type screen washer level sensor
Hi All
I did PM Karl on this one but no reply so far. So just in case anyone else knows the answer is there a replacement for DMI100001 which is the float type screen washer sensor as i cannot find it listed anywhere. I mistakenly bought a DMI000010, but its the wrong type and fitment and the screen is constantly saying i'm low on fluid when i'm not. Cheers Bean |

The level sensor is outside the tank and detects the position of a float within the tank. A common reason for it not working is a build up of gunge in the bottom of the tank clogging up the movement of the float. Remove the screenwash pump (pulls out) and let the tank drain, flush the tank with copious amounts of warm water/bleach solution then flush with water.
If cleaning the tank doesn't solve the problem the sensor itself is part number DMI100000, available from Rimmers, nippy at £18.60 + shipping! Also here, £14.99, free shipping. Last edited by stevestrat; 13th May 2021 at 14:08.. |

Hi Steve & All
Yep i got one of those when i assumed it was the right one. But when i took mine out it looks like the one in the attached pic. The float is built into the sensor and pushes into the smooth round hole near the bottom of the washer bottle sealing as the sensor has a built in rubber seal not the barbs of the Rimmers one. Hi Keith, Sorry, don't spend quite as much time on here as I used to. If you go onto that popular online auction website and do a search for Febi 32437, it should return some results for the same sensor (as in your pic) at about €25. The 1.8T auto level sensor is distinctly different from those in other models (same as the v8 type, if memory serves me correctly). Let me know how you get on. If you get stuck, I'll take a rummage through the spares to see what I can dig out. Cheers, Karl. |
