Default TalkTalk improvement!

As the good lady works from home she get to chose the broadband provider (and pays for it!) so she had a package from TalkTalk. It's been running like a dog recently and in desperation I phoned the helpline. After quite a bit of messing around and the usual have you checked the cables etc. the operator booked an engineer to visit in 48hrs time.

Funny that 5 minutes after the call the speed shot up and has since been working fine!

However the engineer turned up on time; dismantled the socket & cleaned/re-terminated the cables. He showed me the speed before commencing work and the improvement afterwards. 20 year old faceplate slight corrosion etc. No charge for this.

In this day and age any customer service like this is well received. Just keeping my finger crossed the speed stays up!

Glad you had a good result, to further improve things I strongly suggest (to replace your 20 year old faceplate) a shiny new filtered faceplate. they do away with the need for an ADSL filter and separate the voice/data lines at the master socket.
the link below has great advice, its easy to do yourself as long as you are methodical and take your time - also remove the ring wire as it has no other purpose than to introduce interference.

I have to say Talktalk are improving, I recently had a few problems with them after the storms a few weeks ago, and requested via the online Talktalk community, they tweak the snr profile down to 6db from 12db for me, which ended up with these results:-

Prior to the tweak I was getting anywhere between 8- 14 up 7.6 to 8.2 up variable.
