Question A quick question please...

If you are going to use an Eye Raw Plug as an anchor in a Wall, which is best to do:

1). Anchor it into the Bricks?

2). Anchor into the Cement between the Bricks?

Thanks.

I personally would think there should be more strength in the brick than the mortar. Very rare for a brick to fail, but some people make a living from pointing brickwork.

May be worth noting that a brick is usually hollow around the centre because of 'keying in' the cement, but not all builders fill the void. May be wise to drill to the left of centre where the brick is more solid.
Edit:- just noticed it's an M8 so you could go a little nearer the edge of the brick.

I would definitely go for the brick itself - I've had a couple of shelves in my garage collapse because the previous occupant had rawl plugged brackets into the mortar.

I've just fixed a couple of these to my outside wall for my sons motorcycle anchor point. I fixed them into the brickwork, and they do no move at all. I used M10 as well. So you shouldn't have any problems using the M8's.

As others say into the brick and watch out for hollow bricks. Just be aware it is possible to tighten these type of fasteners up too tight and the expansion will crack a brick - it's the 'Oh ####' moment.

I'm also a fan of the direct screw into masonry fixing :

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-Concret...-/360738385513

and in extreme cases chemical bolts but they are pricey.

http://a3fixings.co.uk/Chemical-Anchors.

The other problem I encounter is quite often if you need to remove the fixing it gets stuck fast and discing it off is the only option. Also make sure the hole isn't too big or small and it's deep enough. There's nothing more embarrassing than half the fixing sticking out. I've messed many an anchor bolt up!

Bill, I don't wish to undermine any thing that has been offered as advice but I would like to mention those fixings are for solid blocks, bricks or masonry, they can split bricks very easily, I would test your brick work first with a small hole in the middle of the brick, if it is not solid I would not use that type of fixing, the shield is 15mm in diameter (drill size), so take it very easy with your hammer drill, that can even shatter the brick.
