Canon http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/ca...era/1037134946

Minolta http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/mi...#photo-content

Both 35mm film cameras and respectable - in their day (late 80's - early 90's)

The Canon - has a very basic continuous AF system which is slow, no mirror lock, 3 zone metering.

The Minolta - appears to be a maxxum, better but older than the canon and the worlds first autofocus SLR.

haven't used either to be honest and the only thing I can say is that both cameras are old and both will need servicing - regardless as to what the seller says.

Prices are high too, ebay lists plenty of them at massive reductions.

I would save a little and get a budget digital bridge camera, however if you simply MUST have an older film camera then you really want to be searching Ebay for a canon EOS 300 - the best bang for buck you can get.

I do agree with resalan they are incorrectly designated as DSLR's minolta made very good cameras and lens in fact I still have 3 minolta SLRs the company was taken over by konica, but now the only bit of minolata existant is the mount on the Sony DSLRs to best of my knowledge not a Canon man so cant help there but other will Im sure

Im a fan of the compact cameras (They just fit in your pocket) as opposed to some which is like holding an Anti-tank launcher!
Can recommend a Panasonic LX7 (got one recently) - it does video equally as good as the photos too!

Heres some photo shots using one: http://www.flickr.com/groups/1915414@N21/

I have both, they are cracking slr's and this will probably upset some but the Minolta is the better camera, 35mm is making a come back my daughter uses them now for her photography classes at school...

I think we may be overwhelming the poor chap, he is obviously new to the idea of photography I think personally a bridge camera would provide him with a lot of fun and not have to pay for costly errors on film !!.

I agree about minolta but we are in the minority given most used Canon or Nikon paticularly the press in the end its the lens that count most if you want more minoltas I have 3 in a aluminum case doing nothing lol

Default camera

I've got 3 two I bought new and the later one I bought to for the lenses to use on my alpha. They are better than the stock Sony lens.

I have a Nikon FM to which I love it's indestructible lol that was a Camera worth the Money.

Back to the post a bridge camera is the way to go. Can't go wrong with a Fiji Finepix or Sonys Bridge the Cybershot that followed on from the Minolta dimage

When getting used to the camera- experiment with the settings so take it to the extreme of one setting then all the way to the other side of the setting, then note the results. Next find a balance you like in between the two & its voila! (well thats how i do it!)

I'll vouch for the Fuji Finepix too Nigel - has all the settings of a manual if you want them, but on auto takes superb shots - at around £100 to £120 they're excellent value for money. Everything I've posted on here has been taken with one - actually, that may not be a recommendation

Have to agree with that, my Minolta takes a much better picture than my Canon.
