Default Why is the V8 so expensive?.

A silly kind of question in a way however I will ask. We all love the thought of owning a V8 75/ZT but what is holding the price so high for say about 6k for a 2004 one so to speak with 60000 miles?. I am far from doubting that it's a wonderful car to drive but as fuel, tax and insurance is perhaps one of the main reasons to move them on how come they still cost mega pound notes yet we see great examples of other more sensible variant's and sometimes with a much better spec go for pennies so to speak?.

It puts me off having one for the silly money being asked IMHO.

Cheers
Tony

There's cheaper ones out there if you look hard enough..................there's often a big difference between what people ask for them & what they actually get if they sell them at all

So that said I'll sell you mine for 8 milllllllllion pounds

I've pondered this and my observation is;

1) The depreciation brought upon on our cars (excluding the V8) for simply wearing their badges skews this question from the start. I was looking at E46 BMWs at the same time as ZTs and the equivalent E46 would have cost double the price of my ZT.

2) The V8 (in both guises) is special and those who favour the offbeat appear to know this hence the upper tier prices. I've said it several times and I'll say it again - The mere concept of these cars is a wonderful example of British motoring eccentricity.

Dare I say that despite being more expensive, the V8s are still lower priced than their equivalents.

Must be something wrong with it that you're not telling us about if you're letting it go that cheaply.

It depends what you mean by 'equivalents'. Engine size? Yes they are cheaper than a large mercs, but performance, equipment, quality? Hell no.

There are plenty of much faster and more luxurious German cars of the same age for less money.

However they are quirky, different and desirable and the price reflects that. I do think some are silly money, they aren't worth 3x more than the diesels, but they are worth 5k to 7k for a mint monogram.

Simple, supply and demand
There aren't as many cars as people wanting them

To a point. I do know of a V8 that wont sell. The price asked is just too high, but the owner wont sell it for less because other V8s have been advertised for similar money or more. The fact is there isnt much data for how much they actually go for, only for what is asked. The 2 may not be the same.

For me, then I get the cash together to buy a V8 (and I will) it would be used to get a Jaguar S type R which is a 4.2 supercharged with 400bhp as you get so much more of a car that the ZT 260.
