Can anyone resurect this oldie?
I've been given an old Acer Aspire 1350 laptop, basic but that's fine by me. It's running Windows XP home version, and a lot of sites such as YouTube won't work as the browser is out dated.
Yet I can't update it because ... The browser is out of date! Even the nightly Google Chrome which works with anything won't download. Any suggestions on how I can update it ...free? |

Perhaps see a friend for a disk from PC Pro, or ask them to download browser of your choice onto a pen drive, plug that into your USB port / or load into CD/DVD drive and away you go.
Best suggestion I can think of right now.

If everything else fails you could take it into a local PC repair shop

Have you updated to windows xp service pack 3? If you're running an out of date browser such as explorer 6 the windows update should at least prompt you to update your browser. Ensure you have windows update enabled. I have an old HP from 2003 that I recently did a full reinstall of windows on and despite loading up the service pack 2 browser the updates did the rest.

I don't think any browser has any dependancies on other browsers being installed - more likely is that your missing some runtime of service pack.
Try doing a Windows Update first (there will be loads to install!), reboot and you'll probably find Chrome etc will install. |
