fuel really does matter!! --Update!
as a zt190 owner, getting a decent mpg figure is something i have accepted that is not going to happen very often!!
i normally use tesco standard fuel and on normal running about, 20 mile each way trips to work, and round town driving, i usually end up with an average of around 20-21mpg going on a brim to brim. last week i filled up from almost empty with with esso premium 97ron petrol. it was 5p a litre more, but i thought id treat the car. i filled up yesterday and recorded an average of 28.1mpg for exactly the same type of driving! that was with aircon on, and not being gentle on the throttle! i reckon if id turned the aircon off and been gentle i couldve cracked 30!! i filled up with the same fuel yesterday so will take another reading when i come to fill up again next week, but if thats right, its giving me 7-8 mpg more!! im still to work out if its financially better, and if anyone on here that is better at maths than me cares to id appreciate it!! the tesco fuel is 131.9 and the esso is 136.9 a litre. There has been a lot of discussion on this subject in the past on the forum. You are better off avoiding supermarket petrol where possible - stick to branded fuel. You just don't get the same mileage.

I have the choice of Shell and the Tesco supermarket brand, both outlets are the same distance apart and offer fuel at the same price..You can judge for yourselves which place gets my custom.
The premium brand fuels do give you a few more MPG and in your case at least eight, so it must be doing something right, I presume it can only benefit the engine too. |

I only use esso or shell. I get about 3 mpg more. Its only 1p a litre more than Tesco etc. I will try the mad stuff next (super unleaded) and check the findings.

the normal esso fuel is the same price as the normal tesco fuel, and i assume ill get a difference between those two, although possibly not as great as the super unleaded. at the end of the day its only £3 a tank extra to use the super, so i can live with that if it continues to give higher mpg!
ive tried to work out the cost per mile, and it seems that using the tesco fuel, it works out at 29.12 ppm, where as the esso superunleaded works out at 23.16 ppm! in my addled brains way of working it out, im getting around £15-20 a tankful saving based on the mileage!! surely that cant be right? |

It might be right, you might have to keep doing the brim to brim calculations to get it right. 8 mpg is a very large increase in fuel economy.

if its the same as the results im finding, even though the pump price is more expensive, you could save quite alot of money over a few tankfuls!
im still waiting for someone to say my maths is well out though, it was never my strong point!! |

The warmer it gets the more miles for the same journey and conditions you get. Fact. As the temperature rises, the fuel expands and you end up with more fuel in the tank than when you filled up. Hance more miles per gallon. Extra 8 miles per gallon just from changing your fuel? I doubt it very much.
