Lightbulb Which type of filter?

If your son has a go, first thing to do is lift the rear seat base (the bit you sit on). Underneath the carpet and the soundproofing you'll find two black access plates - each one is secured by 4 small bolts. The one on the left (passenger side) covers the fuel filter. The one on the right (driver's side) covers the fuel pump and has some wires going through it.

Caution: watch out for petrol fumes. Remove the 4 bolts from the access plate on the LHS. Now you can see the white top of the fuel filter. There are two types - does yours look like the one below, i.e. does it have the two finger loops (arrowed red)?

Pic is the filter on my 75

The other type is a later version and it does not have those loops - see pic below.

Pic borrowed from mikemc75 post 3 here

If your filter does have the loops (first pic above) I think you've got the earlier type and the orange/white clip won't fit.

If your filter doesn't have the loops (second pic above) then I think you've got the later type and the orange/white clip will fit.

It might be an idea to photograph the top of the filter and post the pic here before going any further.

Note to all: see this thread, especially Lates' post 7 onwards. If Rosie is fitted with the earlier type of filter, maybe it's a pump problem instead (i.e. faulty electrics or faulty pump itself)?

Thanks Andy.

Some key info: Lates did some research via the dealers and discovered that the early type of filter WGS100031 is only fitted to early vehicles up to VIN 1D225075 (see post 17). My VIN is 1D213xxx which explains why I've got the loops (first pic above). So the initial key question seems to be, does Rosie have the loops too.

Ah, so that fits with what Lates said. 266 is just after the changeover.

Also said one of the cylinders is down whatever that means! Rosie is old like me 2003 1.8i automatic. She had new head gasket last year and was running fine.Himself sprayed easy start and she ran for a few seconds then died. Any and All suggestions welcome. Please be aware that it needs to be simple and easy to understand as myself and Himself are not techno savvy.

After spraying with easy start (which confirmed fuel starvation), did he not do a basic fuel pressure test?
This is one of the first things I check on any non-starter & could've been diagnosed within the first 20mins.
No real need to even check for a spark at the plugs if it ran on easy start!
As already said, filter separation is the likely culprit.
I hope you're back on the road soon.

Could be more things. Last week I had a non-starter.
No power to the fuel pump.
Solution, a new relay, placed on the fuseboard.
Cars runs again.
So, see if you have 12V by the fuel pump.
And check fuse F20.

Another possibility: the hose bayonet connectors have come off the in-tank pump, as per Mike's (vitesse's) thread here - see post 26.
