I think Sven Hassel was one of my most prolific reads back in my late teens, early twenties - loved them!
The Legion of the Damned Blitzfreeze Wheels of Terror Comrades of War March Battalion Assignment Gestapo The *Bluddy* Road to Death Monte Cassino Liquidate Paris Court Martial SS General Reign of Hell I think that was about all of them.... Other than that I read a lot of Patricia Cornwall - excellent writer! Otherwise it was the odd book here and there.. Oh, and 'The Great Betrayal' of course! (Even signed by the Man himself!).

The books that got me back into reading a few years ago was a trilogy by Tom Rob Smith: - Child 44, The Secret Speech and Agent 6. Absolutely epic reads, most enjoyable novels I ever read. I then read all the Girl with the dragon Tattoo series which was quite good and I recommend Manhunter by Jo Nesbo as well.

Indeed an excellent read
Quote:
For instance...a Nimrod on station circling Piper Alpha for hours co ordinate the rescue. ( incidentally I know one of the crew and was engaged to a young WAF engineer who waved it off- alas she subsequently waved me off! ) Now... Nothing to do it! Would have to do it from shore. Vulcan 607 could not have worked without the Nimrod. They did the vectoring in for refuelling. Not widely known and still secret when book was written I think. Again..... I recommend you get a copy of this. Great read Chris Last edited by Astraeus; 4th February 2014 at 15:00.. |
