He's going to ring me back to confirm; something about considering going to a garage to contest the findings and if they disagree I am still on the hook. It is looking like I may end up having to cancel the cc payment and try to do the same with debit card. Not sure of my chances on that and deeply regret having put that on a debit card.

Don't panic!

Assuming its a visa debit card then you CAN get the bank to do a chargeback, although it is not strictly a law - more of a scheme. So you section 75 your credit card company and file a chargeback with your bank for your debit card.

there is plenty of info and even a bank letter template at the link below.

I very much doubt you will have any problem whatsoever as you have INDEPENENT documentation - something the dealer will find difficult to obtain from a garage (which he uses all the time). He will probably argue this so Advise him that the only way the issue of independent reports would get resolution is via a technician allocated by trading standards ( the mere mention should make his alarm bells start to ring).

Try the nicely approach toward the dealer first though and express concerns regarding the safety aspects pointed out (tyre for example). If he starts to get lippy casually remind him that you "could go the route of claiming the goods are not fit for purpose/not as described but then again you could be inclined to deal with this by way of section 75 of the road traffic act.

What a fantastic report though, as said a little picky in places but extremely thorough and well worth the outlay.

You need to speak to both your Bank and Credit Card providers and get the payments back!

You may need to remind the seller of the distance selling regulations and the 7 day cooling off time that you have as well!

Hello Scott, there are plenty to choose from locally such as
HERE
Or HERE
The advantages over looking at something at the other end of the country by proxy, is you can take a magic wand along for some no nonsense appraisals.
