When you feel the paintwork requires a complete Paint Restoration due to total lack of lustre or shine, even after normal cleaning/polishing - I don't think there is any fast and hard rule to be honest.

I've never 'clayed' mine for instance.....

Funny you should mention wax Pab, I am using this at the moment. http://harlywax.co.uk/
100% canuba wax, and the results are excellent when buffed up with the machine.

And just by chance found this Video.... It's that impressive! (When the chap says "no basecoat" he's referring to a normal polish type).

An example of the finish I get:

That looks great. Very deep shine.

Regards John.
Polish isn't a protective coat, its a paint preparation stage. you need to be putting a top coat over whatever polish you choose, a traditional wax for example.

According to the instructions on the E.G.P. container, it should be applied to a clean and 'pre-polished' surface. No specific polish is mentioned. It does however state that if the surface appears to deteriorate over time, they suggest using Super Resin to restore the surface, but they would, wouldn't they!

your car looks dam fine. but give it a clay , and you will be amazed how much dirt comes off it .. when you polish it, after a clay , you will see how the polish sits on the paint, rather than over the dirt, which is not seen by the naked eye.

Sorry but thats not true. EGP and most sealants in general will bond better if you dont use SRP underneath. SRP is oily and everything falls off it. Whatever you apply over it will have reduced life. EGP is an ok products i guess. Shiny in an oily way, but not that deep and certainly not very durable.

Autoglym products are average at best. The car will look good enough, but they have very low durability. To me they are poor value because you can see a reduction in protection after just one wash.

Almost ANYTHING will give a shine that impresses in pictures, whether it also protects and lasts is another matter entirely.

Without knowing what condition the paint is in its very hard to recommend anything.
