Hi Matt,

This is really getting on my......nerves, the first time it happened put it down to bad luck, second time I tried getting up early, early and keeping a watch but there's quite a long time between the issues, would had to get up early for about six months after the second time .

Thought about a web cam but would need to be able to go back over the nights activity, Harry's camera seemed an idea.

Don't really know what's available, best for the situation.

A webcam can act as a 'reasonable' security camera, there is plenty of software available that can detect movement, email you snapshots, enable viewing from any smartphone.

Just be mindful that the distance you are viewing from would pretty much ensure that the images would not be suitable for identification, to do that you would need some fairly costly gear but this solution will give you a general idea of what is happening.

Take a good read through this guide Bob, assuming you have a webcam it will enable you to get something in place. the software suggested is ok to begin with and will give you a good idea of the type of thing you can achieve.

FYI - about 8 years ago, we were offered the house at the end of your terrace (right hand side of your home as you look from the park).

I am more than happy to give you a hand but I am afraid I won't be available until next weekend.

The story, my car is parked on the pavement outside the house, over the last approx. two years I have had three drivers side windows smashed, I know it could be stones thrown up from cars going past but the amount of times is, I think, too many to be coincidence and on one occasion quite a few cars along the road where done.

Got up this morning to find the drivers side window smashed again .

Had to cancel a visit to Jeff (coolcat), am now waiting for Autoglass to get back to me as local branch don't have one in stock.

So would this camera work to help me find out what's going on.

Any other suggestions gratefully received .
Yes, you could certainly do that.

Mine is for indoor only mounting, but if you can see the car from a window, the camera should be able to see it and record photos to a web site of your choice.

We have two cameras in place, a dumb one which just feed a TV and this IP camera. The dumb one is useless under night conditions, but the IP Camera is so sensitive it almost appears to be daylight. I can see much more via the camera, than looking out of the window in the dark and it stays in colour.

You plug it inot the router, set it all up, then you can just use the Wireless link after that.

It is not really evidence grade 640x 480, but if you know who/what you are looking at it is good enough.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

My camera can be set to trigger on movement in the frame, saving the photos to web space. Most ISP's give free webspace, but failing that, there are free ones. It can also email the photos to an addres of your choice, providing you have an email account usable from the router for outgoing mail. This can be done with just the camera and router left running.

If you want to leave a PC on, it could run some software called Blue Iris, which is even more capable, but costs. It can store the alarm photos or video on your PC, you can set it to mask certain areas of the frame to ignore movement, multi camera and various other goodies.

No problem - Its always interesting to watch when people suddenly realise what you can do with equipment and the bits of equipment they happen to have just kicking about surplus to their needs.
